Helfte aarde, helfte lug

You become the seedrnWithin its huskrnCarried on waves and oceansrnUntil, one day, you end uprnWhere you beganrnrnWhether looking from outer space to Carl Sagan’s “pale blue dot”, or looking close up through a microscope, the earth is breathtaking in its complexity, in its interconnectedness of everything in it and on it. The patterns of the earth and on the earth and of living and non-living things resemble the branching out and branching in of lines, repeating ad infinitum. In this series of art work I am working with the soft and transparent hues of watercolour, paying homage to the planet of water. Onto it, the darker and sometimes shiny elements of randomness, of lines and dots and scratches, textures representing the at sometimes scorched earth, like a close-up of skin. rnrnThe poetry are lines and phrases from my poetry publication, Die aarde is ‘n eierblou ark, published in 2017 by Protea Boekhuis. Written in curves and circles, it asks of the onlooker to move their body, to move with the lines and thus participate in the process.
