An early morning scene of ‘Cobbles’, Cape Recife–this particular morning, the sunlight diffusing on a hazy sky, the subtle palette of blue-grey, lilac, and green, the gentle sparkles of the sun lapped up by the rolling sea. On the horizon, the two worlds almost blend together, the sea and sky: a thin curtain between what is above and what is below. This is a place of calm reflection, a space between worlds. Similarly, my technique, with use of impasto and texture, emphasizes the flat nature of the paint versus the illusion of space–finding a harmony between these two realities.
