Ocean Study 02, Late Summer, Cobbles

My second study of the same scene: An early morning scene of ‘Cobbles’, Cape Recife–this particular morning, the sunlight diffusing on a hazy sky, the subtle palette of blue-grey, lilac, and green, the gentle sparkles of the sun lapped up by the rolling sea. On the horizon, the two worlds almost blend together, the sea and sky: a thin curtain between what is above and what is below. This is a place of calm reflection, a space between worlds. My use of lose brush strokes and dabs of paint, development of colour and impression, is a departure from the previous picture–retaining some of the spontaneity and sensitivity of stroke that illustrates the movement of the water.
