The Soft Wild

In this piece, I wanted to go beyond simply painting a beautiful landscape. My goal was to truly see and understand the essence of the fynbos, to capture its spirit. The process began with meticulous observation—studying the intricate details of each leaf, the delicate structure of the proteas, and the wild, almost chaotic growth of the surrounding foliage. Using layers of deep greens and rich earth tones, I built a foundation that feels both grounded and alive. The foreground is alive with texture and detail, pulling the viewer’s eye into the heart of the garden. The vibrant pink and yellow blossoms of the proteas are a celebration of life and resilience, standing out against the dense undergrowth. Through a combination of precise linework and expressive brushstrokes, I aimed to convey not just the forms of these plants, but the feeling of being immersed in this unique and beautiful ecosystem. It’s an invitation to pause and look closer, to find the “True Nature” that reveals itself only when you truly care to see it. THE SOFT WILD
