When walking in the Skulpiesbaai Nature Reserve the veld turns naples yellow as if to celebrate the arrival of Spring. The fynbos Helichrysum petiolare or kooigoed welcomes you with a smell that speaks directly to the soul, an incense of old mingled with the salty sea mist, telling you.. you are home. This fynbos is used as incense in cultural practices, and found here beautifully nestled in the cradle of human culture. The series draws inspiration from this feeling and was a meditative process, a painting of a botanical mandala. The cold and warm greys with dioxazine purple in contrast with naples yellow and calm mint green. Loose brush strokes, circles and repeating spirals.
