Peace Be Still
Oil and oil stick on canvas | 110 × 180 cm
Peace Be Still explores a sense of openness and atmosphere through layers of colour, gesture and mark-making. Subtle shifts of colour create a sense of gentle movement across the surface. Working intuitively with oil paint and oil stick, I develop the painting through an ongoing process of layering, adjustment and response, allowing earlier marks to remain visible beneath the surface.
Inspired by moments of stillness found within the movement and uncertainties of life, the painting evokes a sense of wonder in those moments when we pause and look beyond the immediate. In doing so, we open ourselves to a wider perspective and the possibility of finding peace, hope or simply a renewed sense of connection.
The painting invites the viewer to pause, look and find their own associations within its shifting layers of colour and texture.
