I’ve always loved the idea of birds carrying little messages or gifts. There is something rather charming about imagining a swallow flying off on a special delivery.
In this oil painting, I’ve given the swallow a small parcel tied with a bright red ribbon. I painted the bird with attention to its beautiful colours and movement, keeping the background soft and uncomplicated so the little story could take centre stage.
For me, this painting is about the simple pleasure of giving. I hope it makes people smile and perhaps wonder who the parcel is for, what’s inside and what story they might imagine around it.
I love that art allows me to play with nature in a whimsical way. Swallows and birds carry so much symbolic weight: freedom, migration, hope, fragility, change and unexpected surprises.
