I love creating little stories that couldn’t possibly happen in real life, but somehow seem perfectly reasonable in our imaginations.
In this oil painting, a tiny bird has taken on the rather enormous task of rescuing a goldfish! I enjoyed the contrast between the delicate bird, the bright orange fish and the transparent bag of water. I used soft blues and greys in the background, allowing the colours and the little red ribbon to stand out.
I wanted this painting to be lighthearted and a little unexpected. Is the bird rescuing the fish, or taking it on an adventure? I rather like leaving that to the viewer to decide.
Mostly, I hope it makes people smile.
